FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a lorry which caught on fire on the A12 last night.

Essex Police and Essex County Fire Service were sent to the southbound carriageway at junction 25 for Marks Tey at about 10.40pm.

The road was closed between Marks Tey and junction 24 for Kelvedon North.

Essex Police special inspector Steven Pipe tweeted in the early hours of the morning to say a temporary closure was being put in place.

He said: “Assisting traffic remove a trailer that was on fire on #A12 at #MarksTey temp closure whilst it’s removed for safety then road will re-open.”

An Essex Fire and Rescue Services spokesman said: “One crew from Tiptree and two from Colchester were called to a vehicle on fire on the A12 between Marks Tey and Kelvedon at 11.20pm on Saturday 5 August.

“Firefighters reported that a vehicle trailer 100 per cent alight and extinguished the fire by midnight.”
