PRIMARY school students were presented with certificates after designing and building new chairs for a tennis club.

15 students at Heybridge Alternative Provisions School worked on a Community Links project combining Wickham Bishops Tennis Club, Southwood Timber, Great Totham (Suppliers of wood and associated fixings), The Jack Petchey Foundation and Heybridge Alternative Provision School.

The project brief was to design and build two tennis umpires chairs which were required for Wickham Bishops Tennis Club to help umpires score and adjudicate at their summer 2017 Finals Day.

The wood was sourced locally from Southwood Timber and the students worked tirelessly over ten weeks to design and build the two chairs (both over ten feet tall).

The work was completed as part of a unit of work with the Design and Technology Department at HAPS.

The project was funded by The Jack Petchey foundation who fund leadership opportunities in schools in London and Essex, and Wickham Bishops Tennis club patron Greg Deery presented the certificates on Friday July 14 in recognition of the hard work and dedication the students have put in.
