CHINESE students from Shanghai visited a primary school in Maldon this week.

On Tuesday, 11 Chinese students from Shanghai arrived at Wentworth Primary School on Viking Road in Maldon.

The students, aged from nine to 12 years, are part of the Jiayi Maths Group who participate in a friendly Essex/Chinese Maths competition each year.

The visit is coordinated by the Essex Jiangsu Centre in Chelmsford and Marion Jones, the MFL Subject Leader at Wentworth.

Together, Wentworth pupils and the Chinese students share and exchange good Mathematical processes and problem solving skills.

This is the fourth year that Wentworth have hosted the Chinese students. They have made good friendships with the Year Five pupils and have joined in our fun and exciting end of term activities such as meeting the author of the Demon Headmaster books, Gillian Cross, as well as helping Wentworth pupils to perfect their Chinese accents during their weekly Mandarin lessons and developing a love for swimming with a special fun session and learning how to bake their own scones.

The highlight of their week is when they spend Saturday with five of the Year Five pupils and their families, finding out how to relax and have fun in Maldon after a busy week at school.

Marion Jones said: “It is always amazing to see how quickly the two nationalities can bond together and overcome any language barriers, which makes it even more difficult to say Zàijiàn at the end of their visit.”
