YOUNGSTERS who built and electric race car after school scooped a prize and won races at their first competition.
Thurstable School's Greenpower Team were part of a race meet at Ford Dunton Technical Centre in Basildon.
The team, who have been working on their car for the last two school terms, won both races and were awarded a prize for best technical set up.
As a prize for their work, the youngsters were driven round the track in Ford rally car.
Teacher James Raymond said he was delighted at the team's early success.
He said: "This trophy haul on a first outing is extremely impressive.
"I am very proud of all the boys and girls in our team who are engineers of the future, and look forward with excitement to their performance at our the next meet at the Top Gear, Dunsfold Park Track in the autumn.”
