SUPER slimmers have raised more than 20-times the amount of cash as bags of old clothes they no longer fit into for cancer.

Members of Slimming World in Clacton, St Osyth, Holland-on-Sea and Great Bentley joined their efforts for the organisation's annual World Clothes Throw, raising £2,600 for Cancer Research UK.

The men and women were tasked with slimming out of their old wardrobes which saw 116 bags of oversized items given to the CRUK shop in Clacton town centre.

Consultant Michelle Grosvenor, 53, who runs the Holland-on-Sea group, said: "Any motivation or incentive like this, especially with it being for a good cause and one close to people's hearts, is certainly motivating.

"The weight loss among the group has been really high because of it.

"There are several Slimming World groups in Clacton which take part in the clothes throw each year.

"Several of my members could also be selected to meet Peter Andre, who's the ambassador of the initiative, and also lost his brother Andrew to kidney cancer."

Last year, the scheme raised £2.1million and this year the target was upped to £3million.

Lynn Dwyer, June Searle and Sarah Rowlands, of St Bartholomews in Holland-on-Sea collectively lost 20st.

Sarah said she has given up her larger clothes for good.

Michelle added: “Lots of people don’t know keeping a healthy weight helps reduce the risk of developing some types of cancer.

"The clothes throw is a really good opportunity to remind people of the importance of maintaining a healthy weight, as well as a chance for the members who have done so well to celebrate their amazing weight losses by saying goodbye to their 'before’ clothes.”
