DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a conman talked his way into a property before stealing two purses.

A man was reported to have knocked on the door of a home in Kiln Barn Avenue, Clacton, and asked to inspect the victim’s fencing.

The incident happened between midday and 1.15pm on Monday.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "The suspect then let himself into the back of the house via a garden gate and while the victim walked through the house to meet him at the back door, the suspect was found to be in the house.

"He then left the property.

"Afterwards the victim discovered that two purses had been removed from a drawer in the kitchen."

The suspect was described by the victim as white, in his 30s, around 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a black woolly hat, and a black coat with a red checked shirt underneath.
