A TOTAL of 50 new jobs are set to be created if a huge revamp gets the go-ahead at a Colchester branch of McDonald’s.
The branch in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, has applied for full planning permission to install a new khaki green folded roof, an additional drive-through booth with new design and a back-of-house extension.
The refurbishment will also include improved fascia signage and potential for a new children’s play frame, under a separate application to Colchester Council.
The design will bring the restaurant up to date with other chains.
If the plans get the green light, an extra 50 jobs are set to be created.
Franchisee Craig Newnes said: “We’re trying to create a sleek, contemporary feel by reinventing the older look restaurant with this new folded roof.
“It’s set to be quite a significant change to the exterior.
“The size and shape of the building will change but it will still be in keeping with the current site and its surroundings.
“We’re also increasing the number of seats inside by over 40 and outside by over 50, and having the third drive-through window will also keep traffic flowing so it benefits customers all round.
“The business expansion and employment boost means it’s going to be an exciting time for us all at McDonald’s in Colchester.”
