DOZENS of music legends rocked their way to the finish line for a zany annual village race.

Villagers dressed as music icons including Kiss, Pink Floyd and Madonna for a fancy dress pram race around the picturesque village of East Bergholt on Bank Holiday Monday.

Other costumes included ZZ Top, the Village People and the king himself, Elvis.

The annual event, which has been running for 46 years, saw teams push a pram along a two-and-a-half mile route having to stop for a pint of bitter in five pubs along the way.

The Carriers Arms pub, in Heath Road, organised the event and invited the public to cheer on the fleet of wacky racers as they made their way along the streets on the village.

The prams also carried had buckets with them to collect money for St Mary’s Church Preservation Society.

The winners of this year’s race were PJ and Duncan, aka Andy Isted and Tony James who pushed Andy’s sister, Emily, in the pram.

Sharon Wilson, owner of The Carriers Arms, said: “It has been an absolutely brilliant day and we have had seven fantastic prams enter the race.”

“Everyone was in high spirits and the village really made a great effort to support the racers, take photographs and enjoy drinks in the pubs.”
