AN angry insurance worker has issued a plea for help after his car, along with his neighbour’s, was written off by a driver who fled the scene.

Mr Johnson, who would not give his first name, is hoping the public can help track down the criminal who left him having to shell out £600 in insurance excess.

The 48-year-old was woken up at about 1.15am on Thursday, May 18, after the driver of a blue Hyundai Coupe failed to stop after smashing into his red Volkswagen Polo and his neighbour’s silver Volkswagen Golf.

He said: “We were woken up by the sound of the commotion outside. The driver had already left by that stage so I drove around in another car and had a look for him.

“He has driven up from the fire station end at what must have been a fair old speed.

“He’s hit my car and another car and pushed both of them six or seven feet up the road.

“A neighbour ran over and got his registration number.

Then we rang the police and they took 40 minutes to get here.”

Insurance worker Mr Johnson used his car, worth £1,300, to get to and from work in Colchester.

The vehicle was scrapped on Wednesday after it was found to be beyond repair.

Mr Johnson, of King’s Road, in Halstead, added: “I’m angry because I have lost £600 in excess. The car which hit mine had no MOT, tax or insurance.

“When your car is written off by an uninsured driver you’re left to your own devices really because you have to go through the Motor Insurers Bureau.

“I would like to see if anyone can find the car. I don’t see how it can keep driving for far. “ An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a road traffic collision in Kings Road, Halstead, shortly before 1.30am on May 18.

“A blue Hyundai coupe failed to stop after hitting two parked cars, a red Volkswagen Polo and a silver Volkswagen Golf.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
