A RECORD number of cars were admired and photographed at an exhibition designed for fans of vintage automobiles.

The Clacton Classic Car Show pulled in almost 450 cars from across Essex and Suffolk for a day of fundraising and posing.

Tribute cover band Rich Clifford And The Young Once increased nostalgia amongst the crowds by performing the greatest hits of Cliff Richard and the Shadows.

Chairman of the Clacton Classic Car Club, Colin McLean, said: "There were masses of classic cars all bright and shiny and some quite exotic ones too like a Sixties Ferrari Dino and an Alvis Grey Lady, which was a drophead coupé from the Fifties.

"Usually we get between 350 to 400 cars so the numbers are up which we're very pleased about.

"It could be down to the fact it's one of the earlier shows in the season as our August show is never as busy."

Charities with stalls at Plough Corner field, in Little Clacton, including Clacton Lions, also benefited from the larger turnout.

Mr McLean added: "It enabled us to enhance the charitable funds' kitty on top of what donations they collected. We like to keep everything within the community where we can.

"It was the most amount of traders we've ever had. There were 60-plus of various sorts so we're just grateful and want to say thank you to everyone who came to support us - car drivers and the public."

The next Classic Car Show is on August 27 at the same venue with performances from band Beats Working.
