POLICE have given travellers along the A120 until 6pm tonight to leave the area.

The Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team served the notice at the A120 layby in Great Dunmow, where trucks stop to use services.

It happened at about 12.30pm.

They had been called to a report of an unauthorised traveller encampment on a layby at around 7.30pm on Sunday, May 14.

The group of 13 caravans and 15 cars and vans moved onto a nearby plot of land on Tuesday, May 16, but then returned to the layby.

The group was asked to leave by the landowners, Highways England, however they remained on the site.

Today, travellers on the lay by were issued a notice to leave by officers, under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

Officers will be on site to monitor the situation.
