A NEW-LOOK cabinet which will lead Essex for the next four years has been revealed.

David Finch, who represents Hedingham, will remain as leader of Conservative-run Essex County Council following last week's election.

Stanway and Pyefleet member Kevin Bentley will continue as deputy leader and hold the portfolio for economic growth, skills, infrastructure and digital economy.

Sue Lissimore, who represents Colchester's Drury division, has been handed the portfolio for housing, property and planning.

Brightlingsea councillor Alan Goggin will become the deputy cabinet member for resources, but Constable ward's Anne Brown will no longer be part of the cabinet having served as the cabinet member for corporate and communities.

Mr Finch said he hoped the makeup of the cabinet, which combines six existing members and four fresh faces, would help boost the prosperity of the county.

He said: "Our new-look cabinet retains the talent and experience that has served this county so successfully in the past.

“We have also been able to introduce some fresh faces, who will bring new ideas and approaches to help us meet the challenges of the future.

“This team contains all the skills we need to ensure the future prosperity of Essex and its people.

“Together we will strive to boost the economy through enabling inclusive growth, help people to enjoy independent and fulfilling lives in places which are great to live and work, and make sure our organisation is proactive, efficient and effective.”

The cabinet is expected to be ratified at a full council meeting on Tuesday.

Other new cabinet members are John Spence whose portfolio will be health and adult social care, Ray Gooding will handle education and Louise McKinlay will be in charge of resources.

The children and families portfolio will be headed up by Dick Madden, culture, communities and customer by Sue Barker.

Simon Walsh retains his responsibility for environment and waste while Ian Grundy takes over highways.
