A WELLBEING centre which trains adults with learning disabilities for work is celebrating a successful open day.

Oakwood Plough Corner in Little Clacton opened its doors educate the public on its services and how it works with those most vulnerable in the community.

The team pulled out all the stops to entertain their 100-plus guests including care home residents and visitors from Market Field School, in Elmstead Market, with a smoking barbecue, disco and games.

It was also an opportunity for the public to learn more of Plough Corner's on-site coffee shop and garden centre which is open to the public.

Support worker Tony Brooke said: “It was a great day and went better than we could have expected.

"It was also a great opportunity for us to forge new relationships within the community for the future.

"Tesco at Brook Retail Park in Clacton has also pledged its support for the centre. Through their local Community Champion scheme, the store will be providing us with gardening and sports equipment which is great news.”

The centre has also opened up an area selling upcycled furniture and goods.

Items are donated and then given a loving touch by some of the adults who the centre supports before being available for sale.

It is open on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
