A SUPER snap featuring Colchester Borough Homes’ oldest resident has won a national award.

The contest entitled Our House, Our Street: The Place We Call Home was run by the National Federation of ALMOs.

It was designed to challenge the negative perception some people have of social housing through photographs of well-maintained council properties with residents who take care of them.

104-year-old May Bareham stars in the winning photo at her home in Harrison Court, West Mersea, alongside her family photos.

Gareth Mitchell, chief executive of Colchester Borough Homes said: “It’s fantastic that CBH has won this year’s NFA Photography Competition.

“I was delighted to accept this award on behalf of the organisation and I know that May Bareham is also really pleased that the photograph of her and her home has won this national competition.

“May wonderfully demonstrates that social housing is more than bricks and mortar and demonstrates the real pride and care that many of our residents put into their homes.”
