A COUNCILLOR has called for potholes to be fixed after residents have spent 40 years complaining.
Phil Barlow, from Witham, is concerned about the number of potholes in Mulberry Gardens.
The issue was raised at a planning committee meeting on April 18.
It was decided James Abbott, county councillor for Witham, would pursue the issue.
Mr Barlow said: "Residents have contacted the county council but nothing has been done.
"The footpaths are generally awful, local residents have said they have noticed mobility scooters are unstable.
"There are problems are on both sides of the road so you cannot easily find a more stable way through.
"Some people will say they have lived there for 40 years and it has just got worse.
"They have asked how long they have to wait before repairs are made."
A spokesman for Essex Highways said the road has recently been visited by staff.
He said: “All roads are inspected at least once a year.
"Our engineers were working in Mulberry Gardens as recently as April 19, repairing a bollard and removing loose materials on the pavement.
"Defects on the road can be reported on our online reporting tool at www.essex.gov.uk/highways.”
Mr Barlow, a Labour councillor, is running for Witham North in the Essex County Council election in May.
He is up against James Abbott from the Green Party, Tom Cunningham of the Conservatives, David Hodges of UKIP and Mark Scott of Liberal Democrats.
