AN NHS worker is set to cycle 1,000 miles to raise £1,000 for charity - and she says it is "mission completely possible".

Fay Sibley will set off from Lands End and hopes to arrive at John O'Groats ten days after.

It means cycling about 100 miles every day but it's not just about the bike for the 30-year-old.

Miss Sibley is a member of Colchester Good Gym, which sees members keep their fitness up while doing good deeds in the community.

As part of the scheme, Good Gym members are matched to older, more isolated, people across Colchester.

So during her trek, the former paramedic will stop off several times to spend time with isolated older people in other Good Gym areas.

Her sponsorship money will also go to the organisation.

Miss Sibley, who is well known for setting up the Colchester Coat Exchange for homeless people, said: "I suppose I've always been a bit crazy in the head so this is just the latest thing.

"I have a background in marathons and triathlons but I injured my hip and I started cycling and I realised I really enjoyed it.

"And I always had it in my head if you're a cyclist, what you want to do is Lands End and John O'Groats.

"So the easy bit was to start telling people to make sure then I have to do it. The hardest part was choosing who to do it for.

"I'd never heard of Good Gym but after I'd set up the coat exchange, someone contacted me and asked: 'as well as doing decent things, do you also like to run?'

"Obviously I said yes and the rest is history."

Miss Sibley, who lives off Straight Road, in Lexden, will set off from Cornwall on June 22 but for now, it's all about training for the Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital administrator.

She said: "At the moment, my life is just miles and miles and miles of cycling in Colchester and in the surrounding areas.

"I don't think I will have a problem in general doing 100 miles a day but it's doing 100 miles one day and getting up and doing it again the next day. And the day after that. That will be hard and it's as much about mental preparation as anything.

"The one thing going for me is that I'm a very stubborn person, as my family will tell you."
