A FUNDRAISING day is set to raise cash and awareness of a charity set up in memory of a 21-year-old who died fighting leukaemia.

Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club will hold the event on Saturday in a bid to raise money for the Rob George Foundation.

It will see a six-a-side festival, which includes teams from Chelmsford, Southend, Wanstead and Upminster, along with two student teams Essex University and Loughborough University, which Rob studied.

A social tournament made up of two teams from the club, the Souwesters, two old boy side from Colchester Royal Grammar School as well as assorted team, Norton's Legends.

The action kicks off at 10am and will run until 7.20pm

The club bar opens at 11am while barbecue food will be available from 11.30am.

Popular cricketer Rob died aged 21 in December 2013.

His foundation was set up to provide practical or financial support to young people with life threatening or terminal illnesses.
