SNAKES, ferrets and even a baby tortoise were some of the unusual visitors to a library.

Wivenhoe Library opened its doors for the event hosted by Colchester’s Feathers and Fangs company and Essex County Council.

Around 500 people visited the library to get up close to the creatures.

Jack Morgan, owner of Feathers and Fangs, said the events are a great way of getting people close to unusual animals.

He added: “It was a busy event. There was a great variety of different age groups and also adults who were asking questions.”

The mobile petting zoo specialises in animal encounters and educational visits.

It was founded by Mr Morgan, who previously worked at Colchester Zoo, nearly a year ago.

Feathers and Fangs’ range of creatures includes exotic parrots, snails, frogs, stick insects, spiders and beetles.

They attend birthday parties, schools and care homes.

All of the animals are from private collections and responsible breeders.
