PASSERSBY a high street opticians were greeted with garden gnomes to get them into the spirit for Red Nose Day. 

At Clacton Specsavers, in Station Road, there were wheelbarrows filled with outlandish 'wacky waving' glasses to complement every face shape.

More than 90 of the £2 a pair glasses were sold.

Little Pals Nursery, in Jaywick, also fundraised for the good cause, inviting families in for a day of face painting, wellie throwing, ring tosses and competitions.

Nursery workers Leanne Smith and Sarah Puxley ended up with cream on their faces for the 'pie-a-member-of-staff'.

Just over £30 was raised in total.

Gill Smith, nursery director at Little Pals, said: "Everyone had a great time.We also had ten chicks from the Happy Chick Company which the children recently watched hatch and have been looking after.

"They've been learning how to care for them and measuring them each day, but the chicks will go back to their farm on Thursday."

Women putting a different spin on netball matched their bibs with a red nose.

Clacton Walking Netball team, who played their first friendly match last week against the Essex University Silver Blades, got dressed up for their practise session.
