MORE than 300 youngsters wowed audiences as they sang their hearts out to music from all over the world - in their original languages.

Eleven primary schools from across Tendring joined forces to perform songs from the sun-drenched islands of the Caribbean to the snow-capped mountains of Nepal and the heat-baked deserts of the Middle East.

Closer to home there was music from the Welsh valleys and Scottish Highlands.

More than 1,000 people packed into Clacton’s Princes Theatre over two nights to see the performances as they were transported around the world - without even having to leave their seats.

The youngsters received rapturous applause from appreciative audiences of family and friends.

Choirmaster Peter Thorne, who directed the concert, said: “The children rehearsed hard and it all paid off as they produced a superb performance which delighted their audience.”

The schools taking part were Alton Park Junior, Holland Haven, Great Clacton Junior, St Osyth, St Clare’s, Mistley Norman, Whitehall Academy, Burrsville Infant Academy, Rolph Primary, Cann Hall and Holland Park.

Tanya Ferguson, councillor responsible for culture at Tendring Council, said: “It was brilliant for the youngsters to get the opportunity to perform on stage.”
