A RAFT of suggestions for improvements to Colchester's roads have been revealed.

Councillors have suggested improvements to the Colchester Park and Ride, such as running a Sunday and Bank Holiday service, earlier and later buses and more ticket offers.

A hopper bus for the Park and Ride could also be run from Mile End.

The Lib Dem councillors also asked for the county council to forward fund £4 million to kickstart work to add an extra traffic lane to Westway and reduce the size of the Essex Hall, the Albert and Westway roundabouts.

The councillors also want a review of the entire North Station area and for the county council to apply for some of the £680 million the Government has offered in order to beat congestion.

They said the cost of bus fares by private operators could also be putting off people using buses and the companies would be approached.

Potentially opening the North Station bus lane whilst road works are undertaken at Colne Bank Avenue was another suggestion.

The poor condition of Three Crowns Road, which is a which is a car park exit for North Station, was also discussed as was the state of nearby Bergholt Road.

Councillors also said urgent repairs were required in Mill Road outside Myland Primary School.

Martin Goss, ward councillor, insisted the wish list drawn up was a “package of measures”.

“We are looking at all angles so we can’t be accused of being car-centric, bus-centric or pedestrian-centric,” he added.
