DETAILS behind how a series of proposals “fundamental to the future” of Maldon and Heybridge will be delivered have been set out.

In January, the Standard revealed proposals for 18 projects to help revitalise the area had been drawn up.

The plans include proposals to boost the lower end of the High Street with outdoor dining, an “iconic” bridge over the River Chelmer and a visitor centre for Promenade Park.

Other suggestions to create a “thriving and vibrant” visitor destination include a new seasonal market on Hythe Quay and a restaurant in Promenade Park.

The draft masterplan, which has now gone out for public consultation, gives each scheme a high to low rating on its importance and either a short, medium of long term rating for projects taking place.

High priority improvements include work on Hythe Quay, the Maldon riverside path, a new bridge and creating a destination hub in Promenade Park.

A consultation into the plans began on Monday and will run until April 28. Penny Channer, chairman of the planning and licensing committee, said: “The character, vitality and cultural importance of the Maldon and Heybridge Central Area are critical to the prosperity of the Maldon district and to the quality of life of customers, both residents and visitors.”

Two public events will be held for people to view the draft masterplan and speak with consultants, council officers and stakeholders who have shaped the plan over the last three years.

People can view the plans at Maldon Town Hall on Market Hill on April 5 from 10.30am to 3.30pm and at Plantation Hall in Colchester Road, Heybridge, on April 12 from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
