A TRAVELLERS’ site in Great Bentley could double in size if proposals get the green light.
The site - opposite the Shell filling station on Colchester Road - already has five pitches.
The owners, who are members of the travelling community, now want to add another five static caravan pitches on a yard at the back of the Pit Stop business.
They have tried to use the site for commercial vehicle sales but say it has failed to attract passing sales because it is hidden from view.
The proposals would fulfil the district’s need to provide additional pitches.
The planning application claims it would have “minimal impact” on the wider area, and the neighbouring bungalow is owned by the applicant’s family.
It says: “The location is ideal in the centre of the district and would provide suitable access to the travellers’ needs.”
It also says the site is popular with the travelling community and has “not been outwardly controversial”.
Tendring Council will rule on the proposals.
