FURIOUS councillors are calling on "selfish" flytippers to stop dumping their waste after rubbish was left outside a cemetery.

David Smith, Ramsey and Parkeston parish councillor, reported the unsightly waste, which consisted mostly of wood, to Tendring Council on Wednesday.

Although the rubbish was cleared from outside Parkeston Cemetery the next day, Mr Smith said he is "appalled" at the actions of flytippers in the area in recent weeks.

"The rubbish has now been removed by Tendring Council, but the parish council is concerned at the amount of flytipping going on in the two parishes," he said.

"At our recent meeting councillors were appalled that someone was so disrespectful as to dump waste outside a cemetery.

"What people visiting the cemetery must have thought I don't know.

"When you are visiting a loved ones grave the last thing you want to see is a load of builders waste."

The cemetery is run by the parish council which is considering what preventative action can be taken.

Mr Smith added: "We will be trying to come up with ideas to prevent flytipping, but it is very difficult.

"We urge everyone to keep an eye out for this kind of behaviour and report it.

"It has been a growing problem.

"The restrictions on the tip in Dovercourt have not helped, but that is no excuse to dump rubbish anywhere.

"Rubbish has been dumped at Ramsey War Memorial Hall recently as well.

"Flytipping is an ongoing menace and seems to be getting worse."
