A CAT which was reportedly kicked around and run over by teenagers was already dead before the attack, police have confirmed.
The Colchester Community team investigated reports eight-year-old cat, Skittles, was killed in Rogation Close, Stanway, on Friday, March 17.
The Gazette reported Skittles' story today after a fundraising campaign was launched in aid of Colchester Cats Protection.
An independent witness has now confirmed Skittles was already dead on the side of the road prior to the incident.
A spokesman for Essex Police confirmed one of the boys involved ran over the cat on his bicycle when it was already dead.
They said: "Officers are speaking with the boys, two aged 16 and one of 15, from Colchester, along with their parents who have all shown remorse and are now aware of the severity of their actions.
"We are looking at a restorative justice punishment which may involve giving them a greater understanding of animal welfare."
