STUDENTS donated 1,000 origami cranes to a hospital.
The Essex University Origami Volunteering Team presented the paper cranes to staff at Colchester Hospital on Friday morning.
Spread across three jars, two jars were given to the day room on the Peldon Ward and the other to the day room on the Tiptree Ward.
Origami is the art of paper folding which is associated with Japanese culture and sees people transform a flat sheet of square paper into a sculpture.
The technique can be used to create a wide range of art from boxes and cranes to roses and even detailed elephants.
Jenny Lockerbie, Sister on Peldon Ward, said: “We’d like to thank the students on behalf of our patients for this unusual donation.
“The paper cranes are bright and cheery and are already proving to be a talking point for our patients and are also a good form of distraction.”
