FUNDRAISERS trotted their way to raising thousands of pounds for Comic Relief at special event.

The Miranda Hart Gallopathon took place at Chelmsford City Racecourse, in Great Leighs, on Saturday when 200 people lined up to take part.

Launched back in 2015 the nationwide Gallopathon campaign managed to raise more than £20,000.

The gallopathon and fun day saw people asked to gallop, in the style of Miranda, instead of walking and running to raise money for Red Nose Day.

Last Wednesday marked national galloping day and a whole host of events will take place this week to raise even more cash.

The gallopathon was the brainchild of Emily Turnham who came up with the idea after Miranda’s last show aired in 2015.

The 32-year-old said: “We had about 200 people turn up to gallop around the racecourse. It was an absolutely fantastic day.

“It was really fun and we had a great raffle taking place.

“On the day we raised £1,215 which altogether with the sponsorship is £3,600 for Comic Relief.

“It was completely different to the one we held on Hampstead Heath the first time – this was bigger and better.”
