Essex Police will be hosting its third ‘Tweetathon’ on St Patrick’s Day to give members of the public an insight into the daily demands on the force control room.

Staff in the control room will be tweeting live for 24 hours from 6am from @EPcontrolroom using #FCRLIVE.

The posts will cover basic details of a selection of incidents, enquiries and issues received via 999 and 101.

Essex Police head of communications Gareth Nicholson said: "These events are popular with the public but more importantly give a valuable insight into the calls we get on an average day.

"Every day Essex Police control room staff will deal with all types of incident from high-harm emergencies, issues relating to mental health, vulnerability or violence right down to requests for information and even some strange or silly calls we shouldn’t be dealing with.

"The day will highlight the work of the dozens of unsung heroes who very often are the first people callers speak to on the worst day of their lives."
