CELEBRITY dopplegangers are set to descend on Colchester thanks to a new music festival taking place this summer.

Organisers of The Nearly Festival have announced they're to host the outdoor family friendly event on the weekend of June 10 and 11.

The multi-genre line-up looks set to include tribute acts to Ed Sheeran, Black Eyed Peas, Amy Winehouse, Madness, Oasis and more.

The venue is still being kept under wraps but will be confirmed later this month.

Danny Banthorpe is organising the event with Adam Coulton and Andy Collins.

The trio brought the event to Ipswich's Holywells Park over two days last year where it attracted around 2,000 people each day.

They say the event is aimed at a wide spectrum of people.

Mr Banthorpe, of Ipswich, said: "We wanted to take it to a larger audience and being East Anglian boys we thought Colchester would be the next step."

The event promises to offer lots of family fun activities for children of all ages including workshops, rides and an interactive kids' stage.

There will also be a silent disco, street food market with a wide range of international food and alcohol will be available at a pop up pub.

The festival takes place between 1pm and 9pm on Saturday and 1pm and 8pm on Sunday.

The Colchester festival is the first of three in June with it returning to Ipswich later that month as well as Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Banthorpe said: "The Nearly Festival is nearly a festival as it showcases tributes to world class bands and artistes - the UK's best touring bands and artistes.

"It's priced at a small fraction on the price of a real festival and has respectable curfew times for neighbours.

"People can go home before dark if they have got kids.

"It is making it compatible with the local community as much as we can.

"A lot of the bands you wouldn't be able to see now - for example Oasis have split up and Amy Winehouse is no longer alive - and so the only choice is to see a tribute band."

Mr Banthorpe said charities would also be involved.

Ticket prices will be confirmed shortly but are expected to be £10 to £15 per day for adults.

Volunteers are being sought for the event.
