A MAN responsible for the running of a care home was forced to resign after attacking hospital staff.

Darts player Richard George, nicknamed Richie Rich, was at Colchester General Hospital when he was heard making racial slurs to medics by staff.

During his visit, on July 21, he also hit a nurse in the face after she stepped in to calm him down.

At the time of the assaults George was the nominated individual responsible for supervising the management of Futures care home, in Halstead, and for ensuring the quality of its services.

A spokesman for Futures said: “Richard George has not been working with Futures Care Homes LTD since September 2016 following his conviction. We are currently going through the process of registering a new nominated individual with the Care Quality Commission.”

The home was rated inadequate after an unannounced inspection five months after his resignation.

A spokesman for the CQC said: “We were not notified by the provider but we were aware of this incident and dealt with the provider directly. Richie resigned immediately from his position and has since had nothing to do with the service.”

“We have been assured this person is no longer associated with Futures Care.”

George, 26, said: “I was never employed directly by Futures, I was an independent consultant. I was on medication at the time, they didn’t have the correct affect on me. I can’t defend something I can’t remember so I held my hands up to it.”

He admitted two counts of assault and one of racially aggravated harassment at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on September 1 last year.

He was given a 12 month community order and ordered to undertake 100 hours of unpaid work
