COLCHESTER Harriers' Angus Holford surged to victory in the final fixture of the 53-12 Cross Country League season, at Great Notley Country Park.

The Green Vests were runners-up for the fourth consecutive year, after finishing 14 points behind winners Ipswich Jaffa.

Holford won by a long stretch from Bentley's Dave Greene and then received great back up from the rest of the Harriers team.

Harriers ladies were again well under strength and just one additional lady scorer would have made a completely different final result on the day.

But after finishing sixth, the Green Vests' overall position on the day was fourth.

Harriers finished fourth in the final Essex Cross County League table.

The Green Vests men's veterans team were second while the club's ladies were fifth and the lady veterans eighth.

Colin Ridley claimed individual gold, in the over-50 category.

There were some great results for Harriers in the junior race, with sixth-placed Danny Millward leading the team to a third-place league finish overall.

It was a one-two-three for the Green Vests in the under-13 girls' season awards, thanks to Milly Presland, and Grace Gardiner.

In the under-11 boys' category, Theo Gardiner took the overall award with Molly Whiteford second in the under-15 girls and Danny Millward runner-up in the under-15 boys.

Allen Smalls and Sean Ketteridge won the Norfolk 50-mile off road race.

They finished in eight hours 51 minutes, running a steady pace to be well clear by the finish.

David Wright ran his 150th park run in mid-Wales at Dolgellau and was fifth, in 19 minutes 23 seconds.

Richard Flutter was 12th at the Brandon Forest event, with Debbie Cattermole first lady in 22m 07s.

Wayne Cook was third at Great Cornard in 17m 58s while at Colchester Castle, Laura Shewbridge was the ladies winner in 19m 40s.

Fergus Crouch was fifth overall in 18m 16s, with Andy Raynor eighth in 18m 53s, just pipping Keith Marley who was ninth also in 18m 53s.
