YOUNGSTERS at a primary school in Dovercourt went wild at the opening of their new jungle-themed library.

Pupils at All Saints Primary School, in Main Road, helped teachers and staff to craft the new library.

It was officially opened by Harwich Town Council mayor Pam Morrison, who cut the ribbon to mark the occasion last Friday.

The new facility was opened at a special assembly for youngsters and teachers on Friday.

Headteacher Mark Millbourne said the pupils, who dressed up in jungle-themed outfits for the big launch, were thrilled by the new library.

“When I arrived in June as the new headteacher it was a space in the school that was a bit neglected and a bit of a dumping ground,” he said.

“We worked with our learning council, which is made up of representative of each year group, and they said they wanted the newly refurbished library to explore the themes of space, underwater or a jungle theme.

“They went back to their fellow pupils in their classes and finally agreed on a jungle theme for the new library.

“Our caretaker Ivan Cranfield then spent the Christmas period painting it and worked with teaching assistants Adrienne Andrews and Nicola Knight on creative arts to decorate it.

“All the children were able to take part in art projects to crate wonderful animals for our new library.

“Previously it was just a small room used for book storage, but now we have a good facility that can be used by all the children.”

“It’s absolutely fantastic and has turned out even better than we expected,” added Mr Millbourne.
