A PARAMEDIC has appeared at court accused of killing a dentist while driving an ambulance on an emergency call.

Faye Parson, 40, was charged with one count of causing death by careless driving and appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.

She was due to formally deny the count at a plea hearing but the matter was adjourned so an application to dismiss can be heard instead.

In February last year Dr Michael Daly was using a crossing on the A414 Main Road, Danbury, when he was struck by a vehicle.

The Crown Prosecution Service claim the vehicle was a Mercedes Sprinter Ambulance being driving by Parson, of Church Street, Braintree.

The CPS also claim she was driving carelessly and without due care and attention at the time.

Dr Daly, 77, had just finished his shift at the Oasis Care practice when he was struck.

He suffered multiple head injuries, brain damage, a shattered bone in his neck, a lung puncture, and lost movement in his hands and the function of his right eye.

He was put in an induced coma but never regained consciousness.

Dr Daly died on June 3, four months after the fatal incident, having been airlifted to St George’s Hospital in London in the aftermath of the crash.

The application to dismiss the case will be made in front of a judge at Chelmsford Crown Court on March 14.

If the application is successful the charge will be dropped.

If the application is rejected Parson is expected to formally deny the charge with a subsequent trial later in the year.
