THE future of a popular horse riding club has been secured after a deal was struck to sell the group to the landlords.

Colchester Garrison Saddle Club, which was originally set up for military personnel and their families at the old Cavalry Barracks off Abbey Field, but has since expanded to allow civilians to join in.

In 2004, the club moved to Fletchers Farm, Fordham, while the Garrison was being redeveloped and the club has now been sold to landlords of the site Tom and Emily Bradshaw.

The new deal will allow them to develop the club free from military restrictions and attract even more potential riders.

It will be rebranded to Fletchers Riding School and Garrison Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ciaran Griffin said: "Colchester Garrison Saddle Club is an excellent facility for both military and civilian riders.

"We need to ensure the club is being operated in accordance with current policy and the best way to secure a stable future for riders and staff is to bring its management in line with other riding schools."

Mrs Bradshaw said: "We are delighted to secure the future for the riding school and are excited about the opportunities ahead.

"With the facilities available at Fletchers Farm, our enthusiasm and the current team of staff we look forward to a successful future."

The new agreement will not change any daily activity for members.
