QUICK-THINKING Environment Agency staff were forced to stage a dramatic rescue after a dog-walker who had got stuck in mudflats.

Officers were holding a meeting at an office at the Colne Barrier in Wivenhoe just after 2pm on Thursday when they were alerted to the woman's predicament who had got stuck after throwing a frisbee for her dog and then attempting to retrieve it.

After making calls to the emergency services, staff used ladders and throw lines to help rescue the women from the mud.

Staff then provided her with a change of clothes, hot shower and cup of tea before giving her a lift home and stood the emergency services were stood down.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency spokesman said: "We were pleased our staff were able to help rescue the woman.

"This is an important reminder not to put yourself in danger by going into the mudflats.

"While it may look beautiful on days like Thursday, it can still pose a significant risk.

"She had a very lucky escape."
