A FRUSTRATED mum is at her wits’ end after not being able to enrol her disabled son into a special needs school for nearly two years.

Rebecca Donaldson says Casper, aged eight, has been out of education for a year and eight months.

Casper has multiple needs due to mental and physical disabilities, and Rebecca, 39, says his last special needs school, in Clacton, could no longer cater for his specific needs.

Since leaving the school in May 2015, he has only received a few hours of home schooling a week between June and November last year.

Rebecca, of Grigson Drive, Clacton, has been applying for places at special needs schools for nearly two years.

Casper’s needs mean the mum-of-four has not been able to have much time with her other children – Summer, aged six, Logan, 15, and Jack, 17, who have had no issues with schooling.

Rebecca said: “Casper is an extremely challenging, anxious yet lovely little boy, who has been failed by the education system.

"I am fighting for a school placement and hold very little hope in my son having the education he is entitled too.”

She has contacted special needs schools in the area and even wrote to the Education Secretary for help.

Rebecca said: “There is nowhere I have found yet locally that can provide for Casper.

"I want to know if education should be able to keep a child out of learning for this length of time.

“My son is going to be at least two years behind if and when he finally finds a place, but how can he be successful in life if he cannot learn at a school?”

She is keen to know if anyone else is in a similar situation and plans to take the issue to Parliament.
