A POPULAR village campsite will remain open despite the pub closing its doors for business.

The Strangers Home Inn, in The Street, Bradfield, has shut for the foreseeable future.

A spokeswoman for the site said the pub was not supported by the people of Bradfield and trade had been suffering as a result.

She said: “The tenant at the Strangers Home Inn decided to leave in early December.

“Since then we have been unable to replace him with such short notice.”

She added: “The pub has been boarded up for security purposes while we look to see where we go from here.

“We do not have a tenant for the pub at the moment and the village does not support the pub.

“I think pubs in general are struggling to survive and that is no different here.”

However, the camping site, which is next to the pub, is to stay open.

The spokeswoman explained: “The caravan park will close in January - as it does every year - and will re-open in March. The park will continue.”

Sue Cunningham, chairman of Bradfield Parish Council, said it was a shame the village had lost another facilities.

She added: “To see a pub boarded up like that is a real pity.

“It has been here a long time and is undoubtedly an important part of the village for many.”

She added: “Going back a long time there used to be as many as six pubs in the village, now we have only one.

“It is a great pity for the village.”
