A LEADING fencing firm that has created 30 new jobs in Harwich says its new distribution centre will be a massive boost to the company.

Grange Fencing, which is one of the UK’s leading fencing and garden structures distributors, has invested in a new distribution site in Stour Road.

It said the move is creating more than 30 jobs for the local area.

The site comes as the result of a significant investment from Grange Fencing’s Polish parent company, Stelmet.

The company said the Harwich location has been favoured for its “excellent supply links” to Stelmet’s recently opened £30m manufacturing facility in Grudziadz, Poland.

Commenting on the new distribution site, managing director of Grange, Neil Taylor said, “The site at Harwich will enable us to improve distribution across the board, creating a number of operational efficiencies for the company as a whole.

“The fantastic positioning of the Harwich site in relation to the manufacturing base in Grudziadz will help to shorten lead times.

“This will enable Grange to create a stronger distribution network, working in tandem with our Telford headquarters.

“This increase in our supply chain efficiency is central to the company’s ability to deliver growth across all aspects of the business, from product development to improved customer service.”

Grange Fencing has been given permission by Tendring Council to operate from the old Mercedes site.

It covers nine acres and it is expected that more than 2.5million products will be distributed across the UK from the Harwich base during its first year of operation.

The products are to be imported through Harwich International Port and Harwich Navyard from the company’s manufacturer in Poland.

Giles Watling, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for planning and regeneration, said the council’s regeneration department has been working closely with the firm.

“This will bring the under-utilised employment area back into commercial use,” said Mr Watling.

“It is great to see the plans come to fruition and fantastic that it will lead to 30 local jobs.”

Mr Watling added that Grange Fencing had also taken part in the council’s popular jobs fair in Clacton last year.
