THE mother of a disabled six-year-old boy who shares a room with his twin sister has made a desperate plea for a new council house.

Jade Schobs has spent six years living in a two-bedroom council flat in Grange Road, Dovercourt.

She says the property has been plagued by damp and after the birth of her third child the flat is too cramped.

Khaleesy, aged four months, is suffering from bronchitis, which the family say is made worse by the condition of her home.

Twins Bailey and Melanie, aged six, share a room, but Bailey struggles with global developmental delay, hypermobility and asthma.

Jade, 27, who is a full-time carer for Bailey, said: “My son needs his own special room due to his hypermobility. He is up screaming and in pain through the night and it is just not good enough.

“There is apparently too much moisture in the air.

“We had to change a bedroom into the living room as we just couldn’t have anyone sleeping in there.

“My youngest has bronchitis and the twins both had it when they were born – they had to be in hospital for four months. I have just had enough.”

“When my youngest is six months old she has to have her own room as well, at the moment she will have to go in with the twins.”

Jade’s partner Dan Lovegrove, 32, who is looking for work as well as supporting Jade and the children, said: “This week we had a leak from under the floor which the council have had to come round and sort out.

We are constantly coming up against different problems.

“At this stage we’d even take another two bedroom house as long as it hasn’t got these problems.

“We are told to leave the windows open, but that seems unsafe with Bailey being disabled and the amount of burglaries in the area recently. All I want is a house that is safe for my family.”

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said the family made an application for a move to larger property in September and that is being assessed.

He said: “The council sent forms to fill in on December 2 and we are waiting to receive those back so that we can progress the assessment.”

“In terms of the damp issue we had a complaint and carried out work in May and have not heard anything since then.

“There was a report of a problem with a newly installed heating system and that was resolved the same day.”
