A FINAL fundraiser to raise £25,000 to pay for a little girl to walk again was cancelled to make way for Olly Murs.

Emily Sinclair heard her event, which she’s had booked since June, was cancelled after her husband heard it on the radio yesterday morning.

The event was to raise money for their daughter Alexia Rose, three, who has quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, epilepsy and sensory issues.

It was hoped it would be the final fundraiser and would pay for surgery in America to help Alexia walk again.

Mrs Sinclair, of Weeley, said: “I don’t want to get people in trouble. I was just really shocked.

“The venue has been really good to us and given us raffle prizes before. But if I knew they could just cancel an event, I would never have booked it.

“We were hoping this was going to be one last final fundraiser for Alexia. It’s taken us a lot of time and effort to get to where we are.”

Mrs Sinclair added the stadium had offered to move the event to a different date, but the other services she had booked were not available.

A spokesman for Weston Homes Community Stadium said he didn’t know if Olly Murs was aware of the booked fundraising event.

He said: “We spoke to Mrs Sinclair in one of our first phone calls of the day when the Olly Murs concert was confirmed.

“At that time, she was very understanding of the situation and we agreed to move the event to seven days later.

“We will be working with the family to ensure that the evening next year is a successful one and that it helps to raise plenty of money for Alexia.

“We have previously helped with donations of prizes for the family’s fundraisers in the past, so we are keen to make sure the event at the stadium is a positive one for all concerned.”

A spokesman for Olly said: “Olly and his management first heard of the double booked venue by a tweet today.”
