COLCHESTER Photographic Society took part in its first external competition of the season, a twin town contest hosted by the Halstead Photographic Society.

This is an annual event with three local clubs taking part, Halstead Photographic Society, Braintree Camera Club and Colchester Photographic Society, and their respective twin towns, Photo Club Haubourdinois and Photo Club Pierrefitte, both in France, and Fotofreunde Wetzlar in Germany.

Adrian Stone, from Peterborough, was the judge for this year’s competition.

Vic Hainsworth, Colchester Photographic Society president, said: “The quality of the work was very high, as one would expect when the clubs are choosing their best work.”

Colchester were the winners, also having one of their images selected as the best of the evening.

The following images all scored maximum marks: Homeward Bound by Aysu Bilgic, Mother and Cub searching for Food by Derek Howes, Tussock Bay by Roy Essery and The Journey Begins by Tony Smith, which was the judge’s top image choice.

In its sixth year, the event was attended by the mayors of Colchester and Halstead, Julie Young and Shirley Diver, the twinning chairman from Halstead, Mick Radley, and the leader of Braintree Council, Graham Butland.
