EVERY Sunday night until Christmas I will sit down to watch the Strictly Come Dancing Results show.
And each week the sparkly duo Tess and Claudia will continue, as they have for so many series, in the lie they are presenting it live.
There will be continued talk about "last night" and "Saturday night" when we know it is still that very same night.
Because it is a, very open, secret the results show is recorded straight after the live section and just aired the following evening.
This is why you cannot vote on Sunday night, it is already decided.
In fact, whoever has gone out is already at home sorting out their next gig and choosing what they are going to wear when they appear on It Takes Two on Monday evening by the time the viewer finds out.
This is all fine - but why not just admit it instead of carrying on the charade the next evening ?
Maybe it is because then it might look like it was okay to leak the result.
At the moment the national press do not break the sacred code and we all get to enjoy it for that bit longer.
Maybe they should try and do this a bit more with soap operas too.
A few weeks ago a major storyline occurred on Emmerdale with no warning.
This made its impact so much greater - nobody could quite believe Holly was not going to wake up after suffering a drugs overdose.
We grieved at the same time as her poor mum, discovering her in her bed.
While it was harrowing, surely this is what we should expect from any drama - even if it is one that is on three or four times a week ?
The element of surprise is a good one. It keeps people wanting to watch.
I don't mind a bit of smoke and mirrors - but I would prefer not to know.
I could have remained happily ignorant about the Strictly results show and I haven't felt the same way about the Apprentice since learning they filmed the fired contestants getting in the cab before they even began the competition and Lord Sugar's secretary is, gasp, actually an actress.
Just keep it on the down low in future.
