Amazing isn’t it; the Sky guy turns up to carry out minor satellite repairs to the high satellite dish positioned 6ft on my bungalow wall.

He is obliged to erect a ladder and put on a safety harness, in accordance with his health and safety obligations.

Compare this conscientious practice to some developers. Most workers, minus hard hats, safety jackets, safety boots, go to work in the dark over deep trenches to finish the job they’d been working on all day, disregarding all lawful regulations.

To be fair, the Health and Safety Executive, thanks to footage of the events I saw, are investigating.

Just what does this tell us about Britain today?

They tell us it’s a place where developers bulldoze the trees and the streets are named after the councillors who gave them permission to go ahead.

I guess the sun and moon would have vanished long ago had they been within the predatory hands of man.

It must be hard for the average ape to believe he is descended from man.

They have my sympathy, as have all residents living close to targets for development, in which conditions are laid down, and not adhered to.

Instead of welcoming people to Dovercourt Bay, it should be changed to “Welcome to the building site.”

  • How about a street lights campaign?

So councillor Laws thinks the residents of Colchester are disappointed the Roman Wall will not be lit up at night.

He presumably thinks this because of the public outcry of petitions, letters to the papers and public demonstrations that have not occurred.

Which is in complete contrast to the disappointment and anger many felt and showed to the street lights being turned off.

This I would suggest shows us a glimpse into the mind of some of our Tory representatives.

When the council is given some money to improve all resident’s lives rather than lobby for his pet project, a minority want, he should be banging on about things the majority actually need.

So why not lobby your county councillor Tory colleagues to get some of the New Homes Bonus money to pay to have the street lights switched back on.

It’s the difference between want and need when money is tight, a concept councillor Laws clearly fails to understand.

  • I will continue fight against flytippers

How I congratulate the people of Weeley who stood their ground and even laid down in the road to stop travellers gaining access to land.

We are all aware of the flytipping and garbage sometimes left by travellers and I would like to seek the people of Weeley’s advice and guidance on how to stop this filthy habit which is an ongoing problem on the Greensward leading to the sea wall at St Osyth Beach.

Our problem is not caused by travellers.

There has been several heaps of flytipped garbage occasionally set fire to with no regard for the safety of nearby children and people in chalets.

I caught one person emptying a van and he questioned who I was and if I had a problem.

I explained he was flytipping and he said he was not because he had permission to dump it there.

I explained it was private land and only the landlord can permit such, following which I received the usual abuse.

I have contacted the fire brigade and they are unaware of any controlled fires and advised me only the landowner can arrange such.

The flytipped heap of garbage contains building materials, doors, mattresses, furniture, some of which can give off toxic fumes.

I have had my chalet on Bel-Air for more than 30 years and cannot believe a once very pretty respectable holiday park can become the shameful dump it is now.

If the coward who slashed my tyres and super glued my car doors has a problem with me trying to keep the site clean then please have the guts to approach me, I am a 66 year old woman, not much of a contest even for a coward.

  • ‘As usual, we pay more and get less’

The smiling face of waste boss Dominic Graham announcing additional cuts to waste collections is not appreciated by the public and some would say the thought of removing money from our wallet is the cause of his smile.

As usual, we pay more and get less.

Waste in most council departments should be addressed first. I assume the salary of Mr Graham and other officials will remain the same.

Knowing how the system works, I expect they will receive a huge bonus.

  • Where are the double deckers?

Every morning between 6.30am and 7.30am there are five buses going to Colchester from Halstead in one hour.

At 6.30am, there is the Hedingham bus, at 6.30am, then there is a First Bus, at 7am, followed by two First double deckers, which is followed by a 7.30am Hedingham service.

They follow each other to Colchester. Three of four people are on the 7am First bus, one on another and an empty double decker bus.

How many do the others pick up?

Then, all day, there are two an hour. The next bus is at 8.30am and then 9.50am.

So, why when going to see the Clacton Airshow, do they have only single buses on - the seats all full and standing from one end to the back before.

Double decker buses hold about 70 people and about 40 can get on a single bus.

They must know there will be a crowd of people going to the airshow?

Why they can’t put on double decker buses?
