A large disturbance involving men brandishing metal poles took place at the fairground in Walton on Monday night.

Police were called to the scene in Princes Esplanade near the swimming pool at around 8.45pm following reports six men had been assaulted by a group of young men.

All of the victims, who are aged between 25 and 60, sustained head injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening. One man received a fractured jaw.

Two men, a 30-year-old from Clacton and a 27-year-old from Suffolk, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remain in police custody being questioned by detectives.

Detective Sergeant Jules Cole of Clacton CID said: "We believe weapons such as metal poles may have been used and I urge anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

"Enquiries are ongoing and officers remain at the scene gathering information."
