DETECTIVES are investigating after a burglary at a home in Wivenhoe.

It happened in The Avenue, Wivenhoe, at 8.50pm on Thursday, August 18.

The suspect smashed a ground floor window and carried out a messy search but was disturbed by the occupants returning home.

He ran off through the back garden and may have jumped over the fence.

He was described as a white man, believed to be aged in his mid-30s, about 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build. He had short brown hair, a round face and wore a green cap and dark clothes.

A black Hewlett Packard laptop, a small silver tankard, multi-coloured leather wallet, small amount of cash and assorted jewellery were stolen.

Police want to speak to witnesses who saw a man of the description given acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

They would also like to hear from anyone who has been offered the items for sale, or has any other information that could assist the investigation.
