WEEKLY football sessions will be held for adults with mental health problems.
The North Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust has teamed up with the Football Associations to offer the matches for staff and patients at the Shrub End Sports Centre in Colchester.
Matches will be held every Thursday between 2pm and 3pm with a £2 charge to pay towards the cost of hiring the venue.
Regular exercise has been proven to have a positive impact on physical and mental wellbeing, and Trust staff will be able to refer patients who are deemed ready for physical activity and social interactions.
The FA's football development officer in Essex Cindi Chatha said: "Research has shown that doing exercise releases endorphins which are good for emotional and physical health.
"With the FA being involved, this is some way of easing the stress and help people to get better through physical activity."
Occupational therapist John Traynor said: “It’s really excellent to have the FA supporting mental health and wellbeing. The games are really fun and friendly and are open to all staff and patients. A lot of people who have taken part in our weekly games have really enjoyed themselves and we look forward to welcoming more.”
