WILL Quince is dreaming a dream of becoming a TV star.

Although the Colchester MP has admitted it is more likely to be a nightmare after kind-hearted Colcestrians raised £1,000 for local charities – sending Will to star on Britain’s Got Talent.

The Tory agreed to apply for the show last month if the fundraising milestone was reached.

Will, who was challenged on Twitter, said: “The total is actually £30 over £1,000.

“It’s not something I am really looking forward to if I’m honest as I only really sing for charity.

“This is a massive way out of my comfort zone.

“But I said I would do it and they have raised a lot of money for three excellent local charities.

“I have already fulfilled my side of the bargain and sent an email to Freemantle Media to tell them and ask how I go about making this happen.”

Will was challenged by Twitter user Colonel Camulos, who suggested he audition if £250 was raised for local charities.

The MP agreed after the total was set to £1,000, although Colonel has said he will be reopening the fundraising during the show and hopes to raise £10,000 in total.

Will, who became Colchester MP last May, frequently sings for charity and has a gig coming up with the Colchester Military Wives choir.

Although he has never been trained he can sing and is planning on singing a show tune for his audition, although he has yet to decide which one.

The winner will perform the the Queen at the Royal Variety performance.

Will said it would be an “absolute honour” to perform for Her Majesty, but doesn’t think he will get that far.

He said: “It’s going to be ritual humiliation of an MP.

“I think the Twitter user who put me up for this has more faith in me than I do.

“If he does manage to raise £10,000 it will be fantastic. And this will also give Colchester some good publicity.

“I don’t think I will get much further than the audition. I would be highly unlikely to win.”

Auditions for Britain’s Got Talent will take place this autumn, with the live shows taking place at Easter.

Twitter user Colonel Camulos said Will would do Colchester proud.

He said: “I’m astounded at how quickly it got to the total. Colchester has really engaged with this.”
