ROCK bands and DJs are set to take over a town centre venue - for one day only.
The Sound of Colchester Festival (TSOC) returns to the town next month and will be headlined by crowd favourites Animal Noise, who are fresh from playing alongside Massive Attack and Patti Smith.
The festival will be held in Abbey Fields, off Mersea Road, on Sunday, August 28.
It will run between midday and 10pm.
Colchester Council has granted a temporary events notice, which allows the event to go ahead.
Up to 500 people are expected to pack out the event a day before the August Bank Holiday.
A statement from the organisers said: “TSOCFest is an all day live music festival that brings together the best of what Colchester and surrounding areas’ music scene has to offer.
“From singers to beat-boxers, bands to musicians - TSOC offers a platform for all talents.
“Following on from an amazing launch event in 2015, we return at a brand new, well known location the Abbey Fields in central Colchester.
“We have lined up the best live bands, singers and performers including the amazing Animal Noise plus a lot more in various genres.”
As well as live music, well-known Colchester DJs, such as Ben Howard and Rob Harding, will also be performing during the day.
The festival entrance will be off Circular Road North, near the former Arena Gym.
Tickets, which costs between £10 and £15, are available from Attitude Inc, in Eld Lane, Colchester or from fatsoma.com.
Theresa Higgins, whose ward Abbey Fields falls into, said: “As councillors, we’re not aware of the concert but it sounds like something we should welcome.
“Of course I will be making my residents aware that this is taking place but I really hope it is a hit.
“It sounds like a great idea for Colchester.”
