A LEADING Colchester school is taking part in a collaboration with schools in China in an attempt to boost skills

Colchester County High School for Girls is among the Essex schools teaming up with their counterparts from China as part of a project which aims to further enhance the county’s international links and develop skills.

Essex County Council has developed a close relationship with Jiangsu Province in China over nearly 30 years, working collaboratively in areas including education, culture, sport, trade and investment as well as science and technology.

The council and the Essex-Jiangsu Centre for Chinese Studies have helped 117 schools across Greater Essex develop links with Jiangsu schools, with many taking part in exchange visits and joint curriculum projects.

The Essex – Jiangsu STEM School Partnerships Programme is among the latest projects.

It aims to improve teaching and pupil attainment in science, technology, engineering and maths as well as improving language.

Colchester County High School for Girls and The Gilberd School in Colchester were both involved in a rocket car challenge.

Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said: “International education partnerships such as this are not only beneficial in improving the teaching and learning of key subjects but also encourage pupils to have a wider global outlook and improve their language skills.

“I hope those involved in this project enjoy the exchange visits and embrace this fantastic opportunity to further their education.”
