POLICE are hunting for a gang of men who knocked a man unconscious by repeatedly kicking him in the head.

The robbery took place in Mersea Road and officers need the public's help to find the thugs.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "The 23-year-old victim was walking along Mersea Road, Colchester, at about 2am on Saturday, June 25, when he was approached by a group of up to four men.

"He was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head and torso.

"His wallet was stolen but later recovered."

The suspects then walked up Mersea Road, past the Texaco petrol station.

The gang are white, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall, and of medium build.

The victim regained consciousness and was helped by three men, who came to his aid.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or has any information aobut the incident, to get in touch with PC Mike Heslegrave of Colchester CID on 101.
